Crocodile Drags 12-Year-Old Boy Into Ghaghra River After Farm Work in Bahraich, Remains Recovered
A 12-year-old boy, Sunil Singh, was dragged into the Ghaghra River by a crocodile in Tikuri village of Bahraich while washing after farm work. His remains were later recovered from the river. Officials confirmed an investigation before compensation is provided to his siblings.
The victim, identified as Sunil Singh, was attacked while returning from agricultural work. His uncle, Vijay Raj Singh, said the crocodile grabbed the boy, threw him into the air and swallowed him despite his efforts to rescue him. Local residents rushed to the spot and attempted to drive away the reptile by throwing stones at it.

Later, the mutilated remains of Sunil Singh were recovered from the river, bringing a tragic end to the rescue efforts.
Mahsi Sub-Divisional Magistrate Prakash Singh said that Sunil Singh was a Class VI student at a government upper primary school in the village. He added that the boy’s parents had died around six years ago and that he was survived by two sisters and a younger brother.
The deceased boy’s siblings are now awaiting compensation assistance. Divisional Forest Officer S Sundaresh said that the compensation amount would be provided only after a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death.
The incident has highlighted the dangers faced by residents living near river areas where human-wildlife encounters continue to pose serious risks. Authorities are examining the circumstances of the crocodile attack before taking further action and deciding on official assistance for the bereaved family.
